1. Nagoya Castle

This castle was built in 1612 by Tokugawa Ieyasu. The top part of the roof is decorated with a pair of gold-foiled dolphin-like fish with tiger heads called Shachihoko.

2. Atsuta Shrine

This shrine is one of three major shrines in Japan that house the Sacred Treasures of the Imperial Family. This shrine is dedicated to the Sword of Kusanagi.

5. Tokugawa Art Museum

This museum collection contains over ten thousand examples of the treasures of Tokugawa Family. The star attraction is the original illustrated hand scroll of the 12th century Tale of Genji.

6. The Museum Meiji-Mura

This open-air museum is preserving and exhibiting Japanese architecture of the Meiji period (1862-1912).

Shopping in Nagoya

1. Sakae

Sakae Station itself is a huge underground shopping district. Whether you are looking for nightlife, shopping, dining, art or entertainment you will find what you want in this heart of Nagoya.

2. Meieki (Nagoya Station and around)

Meieki is dominated by the station itself and the luxuriously new Twin Towers complex above it. This area also has lots of shopping, eating and drinking places.

3. Osu

Osu-Kannon Temple which maintains the old Chinese tradition of colorful red painting is located in this old downtown. Osu is about 2km southwest of Sakae and it also has many restaurants, clothing stores, and discount computer shops.
